7 tips for maximizing spring life
Spring is a kind of mechanical part that uses elasticity to work. The parts made of elastic materials deform under the action of external force, and return to the original state after removing the external force. Also known as “spring”. It is generally made of spring steel, and the types of springs are complex and diverse. Then its service life has also attracted much attention. Here are some tips to maximize the service life of circulating spring.
1. The lower the pressure, the longer for using
In the early design stage of the spring, try to design with larger wire diameter or lower final load, so as to leave more space for the spring to improve the cycle life.
2. Shot peening
Shot peened springs can withstand more pressure than non shot peened springs. This process can significantly improve performance and sustainability.
3. Keep calm
In high temperature applications, the relaxation or loss of the spring occurs faster due to the stress over time. Reducing the operating temperature can reduce the chance of spring relaxation.
4. Use correct materials
The selection of spring material is the key to good spring design. Consult Li spring engineer to determine whether upgrading to a higher tensile range or quality grade material can improve the cycle life of a specific application.
5. Minimize impact load
When a load is applied to the first coil of the spring at a sufficient speed to bear more load, the impact load will occur, rather than the calculation under static conditions. The more times the spring bears the impact load, the higher the risk of impact, wear, non axial force and dynamic load of the spring, so as to reduce the maximum potential of the spring.
6. Reduce resonance
If the working speed or harmonic frequency is the same as the natural frequency of the spring, the spring will resonate. In the design, ensure that the working frequency of the spring does not exceed one thirteenth of the natural frequency, so as to avoid harmonic problems in the operation of the spring.
7. Prestress
Prestressing is an additional manufacturing operation that allows the use of higher solid stresses in springs by increasing the elastic limit of torsion. This process provides additional benefits for improving the fatigue life of the spring.
