Conical Springs

The characteristic lines of cylindrical spiral springs with constant spring diameter and pitch are linear, while the characteristic lines of conical springs are nonlinear. When a conical spiral spring is subjected to pressure, the coil near the large end has a larger c value, while the smaller end has a smaller c value and the spring is harder. The softer part of the spring coil will be tightened first during operation. Before the first coil (starting from the large end) is tightened, the force and deformation of the spring are still proportional. After tightening, the tightened spring coil will no longer participate in the work. Therefore, as the degree of deformation increases, the number of spring coils participating in work will decrease, and the spring index will also develop towards a smaller direction, which makes the spring harder and harder to compress. So the characteristic line of the conical spiral spring is the line connecting a straight line and a curve. Conical spiral springs can only be used as compression springs.
