The function and application of the spring
In daily necessities and industrial products, springs are widely used. There are many functions and categories of springs. We hereby briefly introduce as follow,
The function of the spring
The spring is an elastic element. Due to the elasticity of the material and the structural characteristics of the spring, it has the characteristic of repeatedly making corresponding elastic deformations with the size of the external load, and returning to its original shape immediately after unloading. Many machines use this feature of springs to meet special requirements. Its main functions are:
1. Vibration reduction and buffering, such as suspension springs of vehicles, various buffers and springs in elastic couplings, etc.
2. measuring force, such as the spring of dynamometer and spring scale.
3. Store and output energy, such as clock springs, bolt springs, motive springs on instruments and automatic control mechanisms, etc.
4. control movement, such as the spring that controls the closing of the spring door, the spring on the clutch and brake, the spring that controls the opening of the cylinder valve of the internal combustion engine, etc.
Types, characteristics and applications of springs
There are many ways to classify springs. According to different loads, springs can be divided into four types: extension springs, compression springs, torsion springs and bending springs; according to different shapes, springs can be divided into coil springs, disc springs, Ring springs, disc springs and leaf springs, etc.; according to the different materials used, springs can be divided into metal springs and non-metal springs. The characteristics and applications of various springs are as follows
Cylindrical coil spring
Withstand pressure, simple structure, convenient manufacturing, and the most widely used
Disc spring
Withstands pressure, has strong buffering and damping ability, and is often used as a buffering and damping device for heavy machinery.
Cylindrical spiral torsion spring
Withstand torque, mainly used for compaction and energy storage in various devices
Ring spring
Withstanding pressure, it is the strongest compression and buffer spring at present, and it is often used in heavy equipment, such as rolling stock, forging equipment and machinery.
Conical spiral spring
Withstand pressure, compact structure, good stability, strong anti-vibration ability, mostly used in occasions with heavy load and vibration reduction
Coil spring
It can withstand torque and can store a large amount of energy. It is often used as a spring in instruments and clocks.
Leaf spring
Withstanding bending, large deformation and strong vibration absorption capacity, it is mainly used for suspension devices of automobiles, tractors and railway vehicles.
In general machinery, the most commonly used is cylindrical coil spring
The typical cylindrical coil spring can be divided into following
